How to prevent it?

If you have P3 IT Management with DATA-IN-FORMATION you are already protected against this strain of ransomware.
This infection is caused by an attachment called WannaCry.

This infection can be prevented by making sure you have all of the latest updates for your computer as the patch for this exploit was made available in March. All parties infected did not apply the latest updates. The only course of action if you are infected is to pay a ransom or restore from backup. You can learn more about how to protect yourself with this guide.

What is Ransomware?

DATA-IN-FORMATION has seen a rise in the occurrences of ransomware. This is a piece of malware that encrypts the files on your computer making them useless; they might as well have been deleted. The makers of the ransomware will ask that you pay them large sums of money in order to unencrypt the files. This has led to mixed results and only encourages it to happen again.

We have attached the following articles so that you may educate yourself about the dangers and some steps you can take to prevent it from happening to you. There is no reliable solution other than a good backup so take the preventative measures found in these articles or consider one of our DATA P3 Plans as we have implemented these measures as part of the features.
